Stability of inner dump slope under coal pillar support: case study in an open-pit coal mine

Abstract The stability of an inner dump slope was investigated under the effect coal pillar support considering development position dumping. Based on instability mechanism and load distribution characteristics supporting pillar, three-dimensional mechanical effects are characterized. Using two-dimensional equivalent principle residual thrust method, analyzed at different positions. quantitative various factors were revealed, shape parameters optimized through numerical simulations. results indicate that coefficient is linearly related to top width height angle, base inclination has exponential relation with strike length increment. There quadratic absolute value relations outer bottom respectively. in Shengli East No.2 open-pit mine should be a level + 824 m, optimal 15 36.7 retaining obtained by simulations good agreement theoretical analysis. Our provide basis for design, treatment, safe implementation similar engineering.
